CAMBRIDGE
Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC)
CURUFC is a wholly amateur but professionally-run student rugby club representing the University of Cambridge.
Founded in 1871, Cambridge University RUFC is a name synonymous with the rich history of rugby and a club that has played a pivotal role in shaping the sport. Over 350 Cambridge men and women have represented their countries in rugby, and CURUFC has produced more British & Irish Lions than any other club. Notable players to represent Cambridge in recent years include Toby Flood (England), Coreen Grant (Scotland), James Horwill (Australia) and Flip van der Merwe (South Africa).
CURUFC’s mission is to deliver the best student rugby experience in the world, enabling players to maximise their potential both on and off field. Playing is central to that experience, as Cambridge students develop as athletes in a healthy, well-supported, and competitive environment. Equally important are CURUFC’s community - the network of current and past players, coaches and supporters who remain part of the club - as well as its traditions developed over 150+ years, of which Varsity is a core component.
CURUFC is comprised of 6 teams. The women’s Blues (1st XV) and Tigers (women’s 2nd XV) compete in BUCS, with the Jaguars (women’s 3rd XV) playing a growing number of friendlies. In the men’s section, the Blues (1st XV) play a range of traditional fixtures against top clubs including the armed forces, touring teams, and other universities. The LX club (men’s 2nd XV) play in BUCS, with an expanded fixture list including friendlies to support the development of the Centurions (men’s 3rd XV) in the build up to their Varsity matches.
